The museum continues the art project “Conversations about art”.
Date of the event: May 25, the third conversation will take place – the lecture “Ukrainian painting as resistance to the empire. Artists of Ukraine XIX – beginning 20th century.”
During our conversation, we will talk about how the landscapes of picturesque Ukraine became a silent resistance against the total prohibition of everything Ukrainian by the Russian Empire. We will consider how our art combined European style with Ukrainian character and why most of our artists sought to return to the Motherland.
We will investigate how the empire appropriated Ukrainian artists and why it is especially important now to return them to the Ukrainian cultural space.
We will get to know more about the work of outstanding Ukrainian artists – Oleksandr Murashko, Serhiy Vasylkivskyi, Ivan Yizhakevich, Mykola Pymonenko, Fotii Krasytskyi and many others. Let’s take an excursion to the artistic heritage of Taras Shevchenko. But we will be surprised how rich the Ukrainian land is in various talents.
And after the lecture, over a glass of wine, we will be able to continue talking about art among the canvases of the Kyiv artist Ihor Chamata at the current exhibition of the Night Tram Museum.
The lecturer is Kateryna Tarchevska, cultural expert, art critic, author of materials about culture and art in periodicals and catalogs.
