The museum continues the art project “Conversations about art”.
Date of the event: on June 14, the fourth conversation will take place – the lecture “Women artists. When art is above all.”
Why are there so few women artists in the history of world art? Why are the names of many of them known only to narrow specialists? During our conversation, we will talk about why women could not be creative for centuries and what obstacles faced them on the way to art. We will see what women had to give up, but how at the same time they became recognized craftsmen. We will investigate why female artists of past centuries could not create in all genres and how life conflicts affected their creativity.
We will travel through the centuries to get acquainted with the works of female artists of the 17th – 20th centuries. from Italy, the Netherlands, France, Britain, and Ukraine. We will consider the work of famous artists – Artemisia Gentileschi, Angelica Kaufman, Berta Morizo, Olena Kulchytska, and many others. And we will also discover that the creative legacy of female artists occupies a significant place in the history of world art.
After the lecture, over a glass of wine, we will be able to continue talking about art among the canvases of the Kyiv artist Ihor Chamata at the current exhibition of the Night Tram Museum.
The lecturer is Kateryna Tarchevska, a cultural expert, art critic, and author of materials about culture and art in periodicals and catalogs.
