The museum continues the recently launched art project “Conversations about Art”.
Date of the event: on May 11, the second conversation will take place – the lecture “Still Life: A Quiet Life Full of Symbols”.
We will talk about why a still life is not just an image of food, dishes, or flowers, but a whole system of symbols and allegories. And also – how this genre balanced between formal beauty and spiritual content. We will look at how still life reflected the tastes and moods of society and what dark sides it had. We learn how still life enabled women to become artists and how still life could turn… into a portrait.
We will spend an interesting journey through time, admiring Dutch and Flemish classical “breakfasts” and “banquets”, flower compositions of Western European artists, allegorical French still lifes… And after the lecture, we will get acquainted with the modern still lives of the artist Igor Chamata at the current exhibition “Night Tram”. which is currently held at the Museum. And we can talk about beautiful art over a glass of wine.
The lecturer is Kateryna Tarchevska, a cultural expert, art critic, and author of materials about culture and art in periodicals and catalogs.
