📌 The Museum of Contemporary Art of Ukraine continues its art project “Conversations about Art.”
🗒 Event Date: On July 31 (Thursday) at 7:00 PM, the next conversation will take place – an online lecture titled “Ukrainian Artists of the First Half of the 19th Century.”
🎨 Our lectures on the history of art and the creative lives of prominent artists continue! We will explore a period in Ukrainian art when it began to move beyond anonymity. Ukrainian artists started asserting themselves and aligning with broader European artistic trends. However, this also meant that many of our talented artists were appropriated by the Russian Empire. We will examine why Ukrainian art remained nameless for so long and how Ukrainian artists strove to express their unique identity. Why did our talents often become part of “Russian culture,” and who managed to avoid this fate? These and other topics will be covered during the lecture, with further exploration in upcoming sessions dedicated to Ukrainian art.
🖼 During this artistic meeting, we will delve into the artistic legacy of Taras Shevchenko, which significantly influenced the development of Ukrainian visual art, as well as the works of his contemporaries and friends, such as Vasyl Shternberg, Apollon Mokrytsky, and others. We will also focus on the names of Ukrainians who have long been labeled as “Russian artists,” including Dmytro Levytsky, Volodymyr Borovykovsky, and others.
In subsequent lectures, we will continue the story of Ukraine’s outstanding artists, traveling further into the fascinating and remarkable world of art.
