The Museum of Modern Art of Ukraine continues the art project “Conversations about Art”.
Date of the event: On June 26 (Thursday), another conversation will take place – an online lecture “Impressionism without plein air. Moments of modern life”
Our series of lectures on the history of art and the phenomenon of the creativity of brilliant artists continues! We will continue to explore an extremely interesting and diverse art direction – impressionism. Now we will consider the “wrong” impressionist artists. The focus of their work was aimed at capturing moments of contemporary life and the people who surrounded them. But such an artistic approach is also impressionism. Why is impressionism not only painting in the open air? How did modern life influence the themes of the Impressionist paintings? What new inventions contributed to the creative searches of artists? We will discuss these and other interesting topics during the lecture.
In this lecture, we will consider the life and work of the original impressionist artists Edgar Degas and Gustave Caillebotte. Edgar Degas considered himself a realist and best reflected in his works the dynamics of movement and moments of life around him. In particular, in his numerous works he embodied his passion for ballet. Innovation in the manner of depiction, composition, and technique (in particular, virtuoso pastel drawing) had a significant impact on the further development of art. Gustave Caillebotte is a patron and artist whose work was underestimated for a long time and only later significantly rethought. His “photographic” vision and original compositions distinguished him among his fellow artists. And his collection of impressionist works became the basis for a significant museum collection.
In the following lectures, we will continue the story of other outstanding impressionists – and travel further into the interesting and amazing world of art.
