On June 7, 2025, the First Private Museum of Ukrainian Contemporary Art celebrated its 20th anniversary—a significant milestone symbolizing two decades of love for art, preservation of cultural heritage, and the resilience of the Ukrainian spirit. This day was not only a celebration but also a moment to reflect on our journey and express gratitude to everyone who has been with us over these years.
Our story began in 2005 when Serhiy Tsyupko, the museum’s founder, transformed his passion for Ukrainian art into a space open to all. His private collection, initially consisting of non-figurative paintings, became the foundation for the first private museum of contemporary art in Ukraine. Today, our collection comprises over 6,000 works of painting, graphics, sculpture, and decorative-applied art, created by more than 700 artists. These works reflect the multifaceted nature of Ukrainian art from the 20th and 21st centuries, telling the story of our people—their struggles, dreams, and creative spirit.
Over the past 20 years, the museum has become a hub where art comes to life, where generations of artists and art enthusiasts find common ground. We not only preserve artworks but also create a platform for dialogue through exhibitions, educational programs, competitions, and initiatives that inspire and educate. Our mission is to make Ukrainian contemporary art accessible to everyone, strengthening spirituality, education, and the connection between the past and the future.
These two decades have not been easy. Economic hardships, social changes, and, in particular, the ongoing war have presented us with serious challenges. Yet, we have persevered thanks to our belief in our mission, the support of our visitors and partners, and the tireless work of our team. We extend special thanks to the Serhiy Tsyupko Charitable Foundation, which has been a reliable partner during these difficult wartime years, supporting our projects such as “Art Voyage: Kachanivka,” the All-Ukrainian Children’s Drawing Competition, and exhibitions like “Space of Imagination” and “Kotkov: Artistic Dialogue of Generations.” Together, we continue to preserve and promote Ukrainian art, making it a voice of hope and unity.
In this festive moment, we want to sincerely thank you—our visitors, artists, partners, and everyone who supports our mission. Your visits, feedback, and curiosity about Ukrainian art give us the strength to move forward. You are an integral part of our history, and we are grateful for every moment spent together in the museum or at our events.
A special thank you goes to the artists who have entrusted us with their works and to the young talents who, through our projects, are introducing their names to the world. Thanks to you, the museum remains a vibrant space where inspiration is born.
Currently, the First Private Museum of Ukrainian Contemporary Art operates at the Museum Residency located at 44-a Yevhena Konovaltsia Street, Kyiv, while we await the opportunity to return to spacious halls and large-scale exhibitions. We continue to organize exhibitions, lectures, and events that bring art closer to everyone.
Stay tuned for updates on our website modern-museum.org.ua and social media to ensure you don’t miss upcoming exhibitions, competitions, and initiatives. We are preparing many exciting projects to continue surprising and inspiring you.
Twenty years is only the beginning. New projects, new names, and new opportunities for the development of Ukrainian art lie ahead. We believe that together with you, we can ensure that the voice of Ukrainian culture resonates even louder and its beauty shines even brighter.
Thank you for being with us. We look forward to welcoming you at the Museum Residency to create the future of Ukrainian art together!
With respect and gratitude,
The Team of the First Private Museum of Ukrainian Contemporary Art
