On the eve of Christmas and New Year, when nature is especially beautiful and the anticipation of a miracle becomes almost tangible, the First Private Museum of Contemporary Ukrainian Art invites you on a picturesque journey through Transcarpathia via painting.

The exhibition “Journeys. Transcarpathia-Zakarpattia” features more than 60 works from the museum’s collection that transport viewers into the world of the Carpathian mountains, folk traditions, and the festive New Year spirit. This display continues the broader project “Artistic Map of Ukraine” and serves as a reminder of the beauty of our roots, the strength of heritage, and the comfort of cultural legacy.

From the founders of the Transcarpathian school of painting—Adalbert Erdeli, Yosyp Bokshay, and Fedir Manailo—to their students and contemporary artists who carry on the tradition: Havrylo Hlyuk, Vasyl Mykyta, Yelyzaveta Kremnytska, Ernest Kontratovych, Viacheslav Prykhodko, Zoltan Mychka, Liudmyla Brovdi, Borys Kuzma, Ivan and Nadiia Didyk, Oleksandr Hromovyi, Andrii Kovach, Attila Kopryva, and many others.

The works of these masters and the new generation are united by a vibrant palette, an optimistic outlook, a deep love for this unique region, and a masterful blend of European traditions with elements of folk art—such as pysanky (decorated Easter eggs), embroidery, and wood carving. Landscapes, portraits, still lifes, and genre scenes are filled with dynamic colour, emotional freedom, joy of life, and a celebratory mood.

Each piece is a memory of the museum’s expeditions to Transcarpathia, meetings with artists, and the warm impressions of a region that has become closer and dearer to the heart. During the New Year season, the magical allure of the Carpathians brings us back to our origins and invites everyone to journey through the unique world of nature, contemporary artistic culture, and folk traditions.

The exhibition will be an ideal spot for getting into the pre-holiday spirit, quiet reflection, and family visits.
